Introducing All-New HiLux – the toughest yet

Introducing All-New HiLux – the toughest yet

All-New HiLux has arrived in Australia. It’s a decade since Toyota launched the seventh generation HiLux and expectations are justifiably high. We spent six years testing All-New HiLux over 650,000km of Australia’s toughest terrain. It didn’t break a sweat. With increased power and body strength, All-New HiLux is built to tackle anything your drivers throw at it.

Tough tested

All-New HiLux was specifically tested in Australian conditions to ensure it could meet the needs of Australian fleets. To make easy work of our rugged terrain, the new underbody protection and locally developed suspension package has you covered from the ground up. While a rock solid frame with extra spot-welds keeps you secure when the going gets extra tough.

Power checked

Performance has been beefed up, delivering up to 130kW of power and 450Nm of torque for the auto, along with towing capacity – now up to a gutsy 3.5 tonnes on selected models. New 6-speed manual or auto transmissions are available on the 4x4 and Hi-Rider grades. Plus, you can choose from four engines, including two new Turbo Diesels – all with improved fuel economy to give you better bang for your buck.

Safety rated

All-New HiLux might be Unbreakable but your drivers aren’t. That’s why there’s a Reversing camera1 on all pickups. Add 7 SRS airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System and a 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating for ultimate reassurance on the road.

A legend is born

A legend is born

With the latest – and arguably the best – Camry ever manufactured in Australia, Toyota’s Altona Plant sets a global benchmark in how a great car is made.

Toyota has been building cars in Australia since 1963, including at the legendary Altona plant since 1994, and have built more than 3.27 million vehicles. With the latest New-Look Camry, Toyota shows what years of experience and bucketloads of team spirit can achieve – a superbly designed, engineered and built vehicle that’s got the fleet world buzzing.

Driving success

“There’s a lot of emotion attached to this vehicle, “said Chris Harrod, Executive Director of Manufacturing at the Altona Plant at the latest model’s recent line-off ceremony. “It’s the culmination of four years of extremely hard work.” The team is justifiably proud of its efforts. New-Look Camry has undergone significant changes since the previous model. “It’s the exterior shape that really sets it apart,” said Divisional General Manager Jack Hobbs. “We changed over 800 parts to do this in mid-cycle, which is really unheard of.”

Easy on the eye

A revamped silhouette is the first thing that strikes you about New-Look Camry. Together with a couple of bold new colours on selected grades, it guarantees Camry drivers a strong on-road presence. “I think it’s the best Camry I’ve seen,” said Peter Michalik, General Foreman at Altona. “I’ve built six models and this has got the best shape – very modern looking.” While New-Look Camry is clearly designed to turn heads, Toyota has been careful not to compromise style over substance.

Trim and terrific

In designing New-Look Camry, the team looked at the complete driving experience. Keeping costs down at the pump has been an important consideration for each and every generation. New-Look Camry delivers up to 7.8L/100km1 for petrol and 5.2L/100km1 for hybrid, making it a supremely efficient vehicle and a smart choice for fleet managers. Its reputation for performance also remains undimmed, thanks to a powerful 2.5L Dual VVTi engine and 6-speed transmission. While electric power steering and suspension tuned for Australian road conditions make it a real pleasure to drive.

5-Star safety

The landscape for fleet safety has changed a lot over the years and the team at Altona are passionate about achieving the highest possible standards. New-Look Camry comes with an impressive 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating. With seven SRS airbags and Reverse camera2 as standard, as well as a host of smart features, it’s been built to keep drivers as safe as possible on the road. According to Chris Harrod, New-Look Camry “has been a project which has united each and every one of us here at Toyota. I’m sure that it will deliver a long-lasting legacy.”

New car sales top one million

SUVs continue to dominate new car sales

New car sales topped one million in November, with the month’s 98,639 sales bringing the year to date (YTD) total to 1,055,792. That’s 3.9 per cent higher than those recorded in the same YTD period in 2014.

The month’s 98,639 sales are 6.9 per cent higher than sales recorded in November 2014, representing the highest selling November on record.

Releasing the November 2015 new car sales figures (VFACTS), Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries Chief Executive, Tony Weber, said that with one month of sales to go in 2015, the Australian automotive industry is looking towards a record year.

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber reports that small SUVs continue to increase in popularity, with sales in this segment growing over 5.4 per cent in November. “Both SUV and light commercial vehicle sales surged in November, with both segments seeing 16 per cent increases on November 2014 sales, and the segments together representing almost 55 per cent of the total vehicle market,” he said.

Private, business and government purchases were all strong in November 2015, with sales 9.8, 4.6 and 9.2 per cent higher, respectively, than in November 2014.

Business and government buyers in particular, were drawn to light commercial vehicles, with business buyers purchasing 27.3 per cent more light commercial vehicles than in November 2014, and government buyers purchasing 22.4 per cent more.

Sales figures for November show that Toyota continues to lead as Australia’s best-selling automotive brand in 2015, with 18,402 vehicles sold in the month, bringing the year’s sales tally to 185,019. Toyota maintained its top spot for the best-selling brand, with 18.7 per cent of the market for November. Mazda followed with 9.9 per cent, Holden with 9.0 per cent, Hyundai with 8.5 per cent and Nissan with 7.3 per cent.

Prado takes the Greatest Road Trip Around Australia

Prado takes the Greatest Road Trip Around Australia

Friends Jo and Jane recently returned from the first leg of the Greatest Road Trip Around Australia to celebrate Avis Australia’s 60th birthday. Travelling a massive 3,358 kilometres from Darwin to Exmouth, their trusty Prado transported them safely to a raft of wonderful adventures.

Take a look at their amazing pictures and videos on the Instagram feed. See the girls swim with crocodiles in a cage of death, stroll along iconic Cable Beach on a camel safari and mingle with sharks at Ningaloo Reef in canoes.

Travis the Toyota was born

Along the way, Jo and Jane clearly fell in love with their Prado. Not only did they nickname him Travis the Toyota, they gave him his very own hashtag and persona.

As one of Australia’s best-selling 4WDs, it’s no wonder Prado helped make the girls’ journey so unforgettable. Travelling 3,358km is no easy feat, but right throughout their 15-day trip, Jo and Jane drove with the reassurance of Toyota’s renowned reliability. With the power and rugged dependability to tackle the toughest Australian terrain, Prado was the perfect choice for their road trip.

Built to perform on and off road

Of course, Prado performs just as well around town. The new GX grade has been given a performance boost with a 2.8L Turbo Diesel engine. Plus, refined comfort and clever design elements give you a quieter, smoother ride, wherever your adventures take you. And with fuel consumption of up to 7.9L/100km^ , you’ll be saving on fuel too.

While your fleet may not take you to exotic locations like our lucky winners, it offers you all the versatility and dependability a busy fleet needs.
